bruising with lumps

by cornwallkelly, May 06, 2008 06:52PM
Hi....I am getting large lumps in random spots(thigh, calf, forearm)with bruising over them. I don't remember hitting myself in these spots.Especially considering as large as they are I would have had to have knocked myself pretty hard. I'm wondering if there could be a condition causing this? I did have gastric bypass exactly one year ago this month, however I've been taking my vitamins and all my blood levels were fine at my last test. Any insight on this would be really helpful as I don't have any health insurance right now. Thank you

Don't know about the lumps, but unexplained bruising is not a good sign.  You need to have your blood tested for platelet levels and function (whether there is enough clotting agents and if they are working properly).  A full blood count including white cell numbers would also be useful, or more like essential.  Worth even paying for this, as this is something which definitely needs to be investigated.  I don't want to give any other advice on home treatments or supplements etc. as without a diagnosis this could do more harm than good.  Don't ignore this symptom.  Get some insurance, and meanwhile spend a bit of money on getting these tests done.  If you have any doubts contact any haemophaelia department in any hospital and they will explain the tests you need (I'm not suggesting you have haemophaelia, just stating that they are experts in blood clotting issues).  Hope you get your answers.
