Can't wear lipstick - how about using dry or wet food coloring on lips?

by kris082668, Jan 04, 2007 12:00AM
I cannot wear lipstick of any kind. I’ve tried non-comedogenic, natural, vegan, you name it – I have a reaction from all of it (even Burt’s Bees products) with the exception of food coloring. When I put liquid red food coloring mashed into Vaseline on my lips, it gives me a nice color that lasts all day, and doesn’t irritate my skin. Next I’m going to try dry food coloring mixed w/ Vaseline (there is a larger range of colors: burgundy, pink, purple, other reds).

Are there any health risks of using food coloring to dye my lips?

I can't imagine there is - it is used for coloring icings, etc and is called "food" dye.  You wouldn't be using much.  If all else fails you can do what my mom in the 1940's used to do...bite your lips so they turn red!

Hey, you could try Kool-Aid straight out of the package.  My daughter gets the brightest, reddest lips from that.  You could adjust it to find the right shade.  Strawberry would probably be a good start.  :)

A friend of mine would find an eye shadow she liked and put that on her lips and to keep the eye shadow there she would put a thin layer of lip gloss clear or chapstick. Haven't tried it myself but she does it all the time.
