Teenager with onset of seizures, normal blood tests

I have a friend who is 19 yoa. She just recently started having seizures and had to be hospitalized. She speaks crazy things out of her head. For example, the day she had the seizure and was hospitalized, she was telling her mother to hurry up b/c they couldn't be late for the orientation (which she didn't have). When she was hospitalized, she wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, became violent at times (bit her boyfriend), lost 10 lbs. in a week. All blood tests, MRIs, CATs, EEGs came back normal. Doctors can't find anything wrong with her. She had to be sent to a mental ward b/c she was not herself- if asked what was wrong, she would try to explain, but couldn't. So, she would shake her head and pat her mouth. At times, she can speak normally. Other times, she repeats what others say, like a 3 or 4 year old. She has a phobia about her head. Does not want anyone to touch it or wash it. If she is asked a question more than once, she becomes very agitated. This girl was normal a few months ago. Going to college, beautiful, good family, church-going. All of a sudden, she starts acting like this, with no diagnosis.?

It would be helpful to know of other previous early symptoms and possible medications used. However, from what you've said, this could indicate a temporal lobe seizure, possible formed by a brain abscess or a viral infection like herpes encephalitis. The condition is most probably autoimmune. Seeing as how the MRI and CAT scans came back normal, it is probable that an exterior agent caused the condition and a short relapse period would then occur masking possible signs. Even a a cure or treatment was found, the damage caused by the condition would probably be irreversible. Well, all in all, I wish you and your friend luck in this.
