Persistent sunburn-like patch

by Salisbury77, May 07, 2008 01:11PM
Dr. Rockoff,

I have a sunburn-like red patch, about the size of a quarter, that showed up on my hand after an airline flight.  It has not changed color or size in about two weeks.  It feels just like normal skin (not textured at all) except it is reddened, occasionally itches very mildly and is sensitive to hot water when I wash my hands.

Here is a link to a couple of pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uncremated/

Thanks for your input.

Could be a mild burn, perhaps from sun hitting skin where something touched it (lemon or lime juice, for instance.)  Some chemicals cause a photoreaction when sun hits it.  In any case, these spots will probably go away on their own over a period of weeks.  If they get worse or don't go away, you can show them to a doctor.

Best.
