weight gain

I posted a this earlier, but I'm still not losing weight. I'm hypothyroid. I'm been craving chocolate, sweets and breads. I'm not eating veggies nor fruits like I used to.  I had my tests and body scan in March of this year. Everything turned out great. I'm still taking Euthyrox 150 mg. taking 1 tablet one tablet 5x/week, half tablet on the weekend.

If your levels are ok, there is not much more to do from a thyroid standpoint.  It is important to remember that most people with weight problems and cravings do not have a thyroid problem -- so it is likely, in large part, unrelated.

Do you have Hashimoto's? If so, this might sound strange but you might have a little candida problem. When you have Hashimoto's and are out of balance, your immune system is compromised and you can have an overgrowth of yeast. Yeast want to be fed and candida LOVE sweets, bread, alcohol and chocolate. Your body is telling you to eat these things to "feed the beast" so to speak, and because they are all complex carbs and highly caloric foods, you are going to have an issue dropping the pounds. I just went through this and could not stop craving bread and chocolate. After taking probiotic supplements, eating a lot of Fage yogurt, and taking a prescription antifungal like Diflucan, my body is back in sync and I haven't had sweets or bread in weeks. Needless to say, my jeans are fitting much better! Hope this helps!

Glad your body scan turned out great. I crave sweets too. Sweets are my down fall, my weakness.  I still eat my veggies and some fruit.  But, before thyroid I'd give up or passed up sweets for my veggies; raw, cooked, salads etc. That's the first area/section I would head.  Now after thyroid I head straight for the sweets/desserts. Flower puts weight on me so I watch the pies, cakes, cookies or even non-sweet items made with flower. Candy does not put weight on me and do I love chocolates.  This and weight is a whole subject by itself and probably benefit from the diet/weight forums.  Just too much info. to go into here. I could go on and on and on about diet and weight, however I am not over at the diet or weight forums.

Hutchi posted good points.  A good indicator of yeast is a white coated tongue. You don't have to be Hashi to have candida yeast problem. Good luck!
