HSV_1 and HSV_2

by ladidragon, May 07, 2008 01:56PM
A few days ago i went in to have my standard yearly std check, and found out i have herpes 1 and 2, ive been with the same partner for almost three years now, and knew he had the cold sores, about a few months ago i started getting large pimples not around my labia but the top of my vagina in my pubic hair. looked like i had ingrown hairs that had inflamed, not clusters of pimples just one, it would grow and swell and then it would look just like a pimple when its ready to burst, and then die down. I dont know if that was a outbreak of herpes, but the only thing we knew about was hsv 1 could it be possible that i contracted hsv 1 and two from him?

It is quite possible you have had HSV-1 for most of your life - about half of the US population has the virus, and most acquire it in childhood.  Regarding the HSV-2, you could have gotten it from your current partner or you could have been infected before you knew him and not known it.  I'm not sure about the "large pimples" - the pubic hair area is not a common place for a herpes outbreak, but it can happen.  If you get these again, I would go to the doctor asap to have a viral culture.  Also, did you have a HerpeSelect test?  A type specific igG test, such as HerpeSelect, is the most accurate herpes test out there.  If you do not know, find out from your doc.  Also, it's a good idea that your partner get tested for HSV.  Good luck with everything!
Best wishes,
Em

thanks for responding, i can ask my doc if she did a herpes select test, but as for the hsv 1, ive been tested for both in the past and came up negative, as of last year.
