S/P retinal detachment

by detached82, May 07, 2008 01:58PM
I am status post retinal detachment 26 years in my left eye due to an injury.  I am legally blind in my left eye and have been reading all the research for artificial retinas for RP.  I was wondering if there has been any research or trials of the artificial retina with those who have retinal detachment not related to any diseases, and if not, why not.  Is there any possibility in the future for help?  I am 37 years old and would love to see more out of my left eye.

Artificial retinas are in the very earliest infancy of their research. Nothing is near being commercially available. There is certainly a possibility that at some point in the future many types of blindness will be helped by this research.
