4 year old child

I have a 4 year old son who lives with his father across town from me. He calls me about 4 times a day crying for me to pick him up. When he does this I am afraid that someone is going to think he is being beaten. Does this sound like it could be an abandonment issue or is it just a behavoiral problem? How can I handle this issue?

The behavior warrants concern. I am in no position to speculate about what might be prompting your son's frequent calls, but the situation is not normal and invites evaluation.

If you want to provide additional details about the family/custody situation, I might be able to offer some guidance beyond what I noted above.
