endometrial ablation

by LAWood, May 07, 2008 02:42PM
I am due to have an endometrial ablation.  I was wondering if the surgery and the destroying of the endometrial lining can cause an autoimmune reaction-since a part of my body would be destroyed and it's composition changed.  I've been monitored over the past 5+ years for the possibility of lupus.  I also have insulin dep diabetes and hypothyroid.  I just don't want to aggravate my autoimmune situation.  I am looking at getting the ablation done due to heavy bleeding and clotting, which only lasts for one day of my period.  I would appreciate any input on whether I should have this procedure done.  I just don't want there to be issues down the road, and then I can't do anything about it.  Thank you!

I'd like to know the same.  I have sjogrens and hypothyroidism as well. My rheumatologist thiks I have roscea, but my dermatologist thinks it is lupus. Due to heavy bleeding and cramping every other week for 4 months now,  I'm scheduled for a hysteroscopy, D&C, and Novasure in 2 days.  As I get closer to the date...I'm getting nervous....would a prior C-Section interfere with the success of my procedure?

How did your procedure go?  I ended up cancelling my endometrial ablation.  My last two periods have been light, so I feel good about my decision so far.  How did you find out you have sjogrens?  I've been checked for that as well, but I guess that no diagnosis so far is a good thing. I have symptoms that come and go, some days I feel great.  Autoimmune is a puzzling thing.  I hope everything went well with your procedure.

I don't believe that an endometrial ablation would contribute in any way to an auto immune reaction in your body.  It simply destroys the majority of the uterine lining so that it does not build up and shed as a period.
