last thursday I had unprotected sex with a new partner, and almost immediatly after I got terrible red bumps at the top of my vagina where the hair grows. The next day the bumps were a little worse, and now 6 days later they are still there, am I just having a reaction or could this be herpes

Herpes doesnt usually show up that quickly, however if you are concerned, go to a doctor and check it out.  Also do you have any other symptoms? itching, pain, have the bumps changed, spread etc. Dont freak out, just take this one step at a time, and the first step is to see a doctor and get the bumps tested.  It is important that you go now if you want to test the bumps for herpes though, because it is much easier for them to diagnose or disregard the possibility of herpes if they have lesions to test, otherwise it is much more difficult to diagnose.

Sorry, i missed part of your statement before i wrote that, but also if it is where the hair grows it could just be ingrown hairs or razor burn.  Again if you are worried about it, just go to the doctor and get them checked out, its better to be safe than sorry! and at least you would have peace of mind and know if it is anything to worry about.

This doesn't really sound like herpes.  As massively confused said herpes won't show up that quickly. You need to see your provider though today or tomorrow and have this looked at. It's already been there a week now so it's past time for a full work up. Also since it was unprotected sex you also need a full std screening done.
