C-Reactive Protein with sensitivity test results

by michelle77844, May 07, 2008 02:50PM
Hi, I am a 44 year od social worker in a high stress job. I am diabetic type II and recently had a C-Reactive Protein with sensitivity test result come back with a reading of 5.3  Normal is considered from 0 to 4.0. Does this mean I have had a heart attack or does it mean I am at a greater chance for having a heart attack? Thank you

It means that you have an increased risk of developing symptomatic heart disease. How do you treat this? Well with weight loss and exercise, decrease intake of carbohydrates and fats( especially saturated). Medical therapy, especially with statins ( eg lipitor) and aspirin have also been used to decrease the risk of development of heart disease. And of course you need appropriate glycemic control: your hgba1c should be less than 6.0.
