lump on inner thigh

by tanzania, May 07, 2008 03:26PM
i am wondering, my friend has a swollen gland on his inner thigh. it hasn't gone away in about 10 or more years. he is worried about it being hiv or cancerous. and he is scared to go to the doctor. what information can i give him to ease his mind. its only located in one spot on his right leg where his thigh meets his groind. its not red and it doesn't hurt ever. he was sexually spontaneous ten years ago with using no protection. he has been worried about this. could it be an allergy? cyst? what information can you give me. thanks tanzania

Hello.

I cannot tell you with 100% certainty regarding whether the "swollen gland" is benign or malignant. It is unlikely that the cyst is cancerous if it has been present for 10 years and has not changed significantly in size. It is probably not an "allergy."

Also, he should not be "scared" about going to the doctor. That is the only way that he will be able to be reassured.

Please feel free to ask additional questions.
