Just diagnosed....

by Sunnyday1, May 07, 2008 08:35PM
I had a spot come up on my lower back a few years ago, that recurred infrequently-maybe 3 times.  Always in the same spot, small blisters.  It hasn't occurred in at least 8 years.  I recently tested positive for hsv-2 and my ob suspects the spot on my back is actually herpes.  I've never had any cold sores, fever blisters, etc. on my mouth or genitally.  I'm in the process of beginning a new sexual relationship and this, naturally, has caused some concern.  Can you give me any advice?  Thanks so much.

Yes the area on your back you've described sounds exactly like genital herpes.  You should avoid sex whenever you have it unless your partner is also hsv2+. Has your new partner had a std screening and been tested for herpes yet?

the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com has terrific information that I encourage you to read. Your partner can also read it more to learn more about hsv2 and how to reduce the risk of transmission.
