What Is Wrong?

by jeanne0, May 07, 2008 08:48PM
In February I came down with the respiratory infection that was going on in our southern California area.  It took a long time to go away, when I finally went to the doctor and got an antibiotic.  I was better for a couple of days, but seems to have become VERY sensitive to smoke.  I start coughing when I even walk by someone who is smoking outside in the fresh air.  I think I have also identified that putting half and half into my coffee causes me to start coughing.  I can also notice a different feeling in my upper lungs or chest area if I am talking about or dealing with something stressful.  This is sort of a pre-coughing feeling.

I have never had allergies of any kind.  What is going on?  Is this something from the infection I had back in February?

Any suggestions?

Thx

It might be. If you scroll down a ways, you'll see that I posted something kind of similar. I came down with a WICKED infection in February also. It knocked me flat. Probably THE single worst infection I've ever had in my life. I took Avelox for 10 days which finally got be past it BUT once I stopped taking the Avelox I developed wheezing and a cough and pain when I tried to take a deep breath. This lasted for, oh, six weeks or so. Long enough to have me VERY concerned that I might have a chronic condition. Six weeks, at least to me, is a LONG time to go and not get any better. But then, three days ago, I had probably my worst day of coughing yet. And the next day...I was better. Not COMPLETELY better. Not 100% but for the first time I actually started to improve. I could take deep breaths without pain. For as long as I'd had the lower lung infection (that's what I assume I had) my recovery seemed relatively instantaneous. So, if you got what I got in February, hang in there. It just make take time to kick this thing.

I agree that perhaps your infection is playing a part in all of this..Infections have a way of making your lungs very sensitive. Have you talked to your doctor about this? It sounds like your airways are hyper reactive, kind of like an asthmatic would be. There are meds that can help you when you get into these spastic, coughing fits. I would see your doc and explain what is going on, so that he or she can help minimize these symptoms. Sunny

Get a blood test for Mycoplasma pnemonia.  IT often does not show up on x-rays and can only be detected througha blood test.  It is a cross between a virus and a bacteria and only  can be knocked out by longer doses of very specific antia biotics.   This little bug can actually get inside of tissue snad stay there.  I have had a recurrance of this bug 3 times in the past 15 years.  It always attacks the same area in me.  Everytime I have it, I have to convince the doctor to do a blood test for mycoplasma and send it out to a specialized lab.  Not every lab can perfomr the test.  This last time my physician was shoked to find out I was right.  The levels of the little buggers were three times the  amount need to indicate a presumptive positive.  Only certian antibiotic work against this bug.

Symptoms include.  Dry cough that simply will not go away.  Feeling of tightness of lump in neck.  waking up at night from coughing or night sweats  and fatigue.  If it turns out you have this bug let me know I'll give you more information.
