Fibromuscular Dysplasia Vertebrals/Carotids

by Annie906, May 07, 2008 09:41PM
I suffer from severe complex migraine headaches that exhibit TIA type symptoms and have Fibromuscular Dysplasia  at the base of the vertebrals and carotids.  I had an MRI without contrast on Tuesday to rule out stroke and this was the written impression by Radiologist:

Impression:
1.  Multiple areas of abnormal T2/FLAIR signal intensity white matter each cerebral hemisphere. These do not appear significantly changed in size or number from prior exam (1 year ago).  Possible etiologies again include ischemic gliosis, however, demyelinating process cannot be excluded.  (What are these?)

2.  Slight mucosal thickening anterior ethmoid air cells. (What is that?)

Hopefully you can explain some of the medical terminology in this report (or  guide me to a site)  like what is the increased T2/FLAIR signal measuring 6mm (in the report) and what is ischemic gliosis and what is demyelinating process.  I am going to get referral next week to enter the neurology program at Stanford.  I know that it will take some time to get in.
