Recent stroke

by Cookiepoo, May 08, 2008 12:13AM
My boyfriend of the past 9 years recently had a hemmoraghic stroke. He seems to have no use of his left side and of course, has the slurred speech. This stroke happened 4 days ago. The neurosurgeon told us today that he will have to have surgery as the blood is not re-absorbing and the swelling has restarted.
My question is---how successful is this surgery? How dangerous? I realize that without it, we will basically watch him lay and die. The doctor called it an "intracranial" bleed or stroke. His blood pressure is great and always has been. What is the outcome with the surgery and how much recovery of the use of his left side should I expect?
I know nothing except what I have been able to read about on the 'net concerning strokes, so any info is greatly appreciated.

Hello Dear,
You have to  face the problem bravely.Outcome of the surgery cannot be predicted and nothing can be presumed beforehand.Success rate of the surgery depends on many factors like the type of stroke, age of the patient, the symptoms, damage to the tissues etc.You should consult the neurosurgeon and ask him the pros and cons of the surgery.Be hopeful and pray to God for the best.
Goodluck

hi, i know its scary and im sorry you have to go through this, my son who was only 17 had the same thing. no trama,  just passed out one night on the floor. he had emergency surgery the same day, it will be 2 months may 28th.theres no way to know what the out come will be. my son's biggest problem is his vision, he can see straight ahead but thats it. he has a hard time reading, can't drive (yet) and bumps into things sometimes. the doctors say with him being so young, some may come back. i pray it does.
he did homebound and just graduated high school last weekend. but be prepared he didnt know our names, said the wrong words in place of what he was trying to say.couldnt remember short term.but it came back day by day.
