Depo-provera side effects?

by MrsLovetts, May 08, 2008 01:38AM
Hi Im a 20 year old female and I had two 3-month interval shots of the Depo-provera birth control last year. I had my last shot in early October 07 following a 2 week period approximately a week later. I havent had my menstrual cycle since? l've addressed my doctor when I went for a totally different thing and she said it could take a year to get it back? Is this correct?Thank you!

I was on the depo shot for 5 years, and it is true when they say that it can take up to a year, I got off In Oct/08, didn't get my period until Jan (3months later), but not again, until April. They say that your hormones are all out of wack, so it takes time for everything to go back to normal. (Which sucks for me, b/c we are trying to have a baby)

The first time I got off, was June 2004, b/c I was getting married, and we wanted to try to have a baby, asap. The doctors told me that b/c I was on the shot for so long, it will take me up to a year to get pregnant, well wouldn't you know it, I got pregnant 3 months later, in September.

I guess it all depends on your body, like they say, some ppl gain weight on the shot, some ppl lose weight. Some have some bleeding first few months, some dont. I wouldn't worry to much about it. But if your still not convinced I would go see a doctor.

Hope this was helpful.
