Newly diagnosed anorexic with white mucus in stool!

by refinnejlee, May 08, 2008 09:49AM
I am a 32 year old female, who has just been diagnosed with an anorexic eating disorder, that I have had for 3 years, and was never aware of.  I do take laxatives every once in awhile and over the last 3 bowel movements I have noticed dime size globs of white mucus inside the stool itself...is this a serious problem??  Or is this something that will go away on it's own?

PS...I'm in treatment for my eating disorder...so I'm trying to get better!

Hi refinnejlee,
A noticeable amount of mucus in stool is not nprmal. It could be due to infection, irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel diseases.

You need to be treated for that.

Dr. Kini is correct. I was having a lot of mucos in my stool and my tummy was hurting. I thought it was from all the laxatives I was taking for constipation. Then one day, not too long ago, I noticed that parts of my stool were black. Went running to a GI doc and had a colonoscopy. Guess what....."Inflammatory Bowl Disease" ULCERATIVE COLITIS to be exact. Not with diarreah but with constipation. If your in a flare up now, get to the doctor quickly.

I have crohns disease and I get that mucus frequently. My stool samples come back negative for infection. So I think it just has to do with inflamation of the intestines. See a GI Doctor.
