IGM positive & IGG Negative - have a few questions

Hello,

I had a condom break back in december, it is now may, nearly six months later I decided to get testing.

I have not had sex since and have only kissed a few girls since then.

I just got my test results back and the Herpes IGG tests were negative and the IGM test was showing a 1.6 for recent exposure? I took the IGM test again and it showed a 1.8 this next time...

Does a IGM test guarantee that it is something contracted with 6 weeks or could it be possibly from december( 6 months ago) ?

The doctor told me that I definitely have either herpes 1 or herpes 2 and have to wait 6 weeks to be tested again.

This is terrifying, I have had no symptoms.

What is the reliability of this test that if it shows positive you actually have either 1 or 2?  I have read around on the internet that people have received false positives but I was wanting to know how many..

Thank you all for your advice

Hi there -

The herpes IgM test is very unreliable.  It is supposed to show that you have been recently infected, but clearly, you haven't been.  Its just a bad test, shouldn't be drawn on adults, and some labs aren't even running them anymore.

Totally disregard it.

If your IgG is negative at 6 months out, you don't have herpes.
