Tension headaches and visual floaters

by xl_dean_lx, May 08, 2008 12:43PM
Recently, I've been having tension headaches and visual floaters. I related this to sitting in front of a computer all day at work. I had an eye exam done and my vision was perfect but the doctor did prescribe some glasses for computer use only. Ive read up on visual floaters being common or a sign of retinal damage. If there was anything serious, the eye exam shouldve revealed this, correct? Is it common that computer users and tension headaches cause more than usual visual floaters?

Computer use does not cause floaters. However using a computer screen often makes the floaters more obvious. There are all kinds of things that pass as "eye exams". If your eyes were not checked by a MD physician ophthalmologist in a professional medical office you could have medical problems that would not be deteched by a non-MD, non-physician limited eye care provider (optometrist).

There is no relationship between tension headaches and floaters.

My eye exam was by an optometrist. He dialated my eyes and everything but I guess there are still things that could possibly be going on that those tests wouldnt reveal?

Can tight neck muscles or spine/vertebrae issues cause vision problems? I know these can be assoctiated with headaches but not sure how it may or may not effect vision.

Your eyes were not checked by a Eye MD. Yes an optom can miss many things a Eye MD will diagnose.

NO not neck/spine

Interesting, from what Ive read. Having issues with the C1, C2, and Atlas being out of alignment due to neck injury can cause many symptoms from headaches, vision issues, and so on.

None of the nerves or parts of the brain related to vision go that low in the spinal column.

I copied an pasted this from another site and it makes perfect sense.

"The nervous system is responsible for all communication within the body - controlling emotions, vision, hearing, balance, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, muscle tension, posture, hormones, glandular, and other functions. This knowledge explains why irritation or pressure within the central nervous system interrupts communication to the body and causes a variety of health problems."

Not sure what that is supposed to mean?

With the spine being directly related to the central nervous system. Any problems or misalignments in your spine could relate in vision problems as well.

You could be risking blindness by not seeing an eye md. If you are writing here sincerely, you will have your eyes checked by an md.

You cannot believe everthing just because someone wrote it.

I am writing sincerely and have been experiencing some abnormal things lately.

You are correct about not believing everything you read and the samething applies here, but you must also realize that alot of doctors dont know as much as they think they do. To say that spinal issues which is directly related to your central nervous system which controls and helps your body communicate properly cannot effect vision what so ever is rediculous.

I saw an Opthalmalogist today and the exam came out good. He said my eye health was perfect and really didnt know what was causing my floaters and headaches. What should be my next step in resolving this issue? Since the pressure feels like sinus pressure without any other cold/allergy symptoms, I have an appt. scheduled with an ENT to rule out another possibility.
