sleep apnea and hypothyroidism

I have sleep apnea and have recently come across some things on the web that suggest hypothyroidism could be the cause.  I seem to have some other symptoms of it too.

I had a physical done not too long ago and the report indicated a normal thyroid profile.  Should I have my thyroid checked any more extensively than that?  It would be great to get rid of this CPAP machine, if possible, as I've read some other people on the web were able to do once they got the thyroid under control with medication.

Thyroid is not a common cause -- a huge goiter could cause sleep apnea and untreated severe hypothyroidism can cause sleep apnea.  Talk to your doctor to make sure these do not apply to your case.
