Negative Blood Test, But Maybe Symptoms

I am hoping Grace can answer this.  I may have had exposure to oral herpes to the genitals.  The women did not have any cold sores or lesions.  I had anal itching 2 days later, although I was under a lot of stress and anxiety.  Took a herpes select test to make sure I did not have past exposure to HSV1, came back negative, not even a hint of antibody.

Was put on acyclovir in off chance i did, since i had some funny looking pimples in the genital area.  They were gone in a day after starting treatment.  Had leg pain and muscle aches in both legs for 2 weeks.  Again, under a lot of stress and anxiety.

Last week in a half, about 1-1/2 month after exposure, chaffing in the anal region and itchiness.  Felt like I had two lesions as I had two spots that hurt to touch.  Doctor was not impressed as being herpes.  After about 4 or 5 days of having this had left leg pain and some shooting pains down left buttocks.  If this is prodrome, it should have happened before any breakout.

Here is my question, I had another IGG done at just under 8 weeks and again not one hint of an antibody.  My doctor really believes I am driving myself nuts.  He is convinced I do not need another test.  From what you have read from other STD experts and doctors, do you think I should be worried and get tested again?  Shouldn't I have some antibodies by now, even if it is a low reading?

Thanks and have a good day

You're fine.

Your doctor doesn't think you have herpes and he's been seeing this all up close and personal.

Your test results aren't showing up + for herpes.

I'm going with waring and your doc  - it's not likely to be herpes.

Have you been tested for yeast and bacterial infections as a cause of your itching?  Even males get them down yonder.

I only agree with one thing this guys says.. The part where he says he is nuts!! YOU DON'T HAVE HERPES!!!!  Nothing you have said suggests this. Prodromes onlye happens during recurrent infections, not the initial episode.. I think he is reading the internet way too much and this is what is driving him crazy!! Symptoms on the internet will make you believe you are pregnant if you read it long enough.. Relax and go on a vacation or something....:)

I don't know if Crusher will, but I appreciate your response. I think I was driving myself crazy with the possibilities of becoming infected.
Great post.

You are probably right.  The second potential ob came just before I had to go back in for the 8 week test.  The intercourse was protected so really the chances are very minimal.  The prodrome I was referring too was during the recurrence and not the initial ob.
During the potential ob the back of my legs were sore.

You would think I should have at least some antibodies by now if I was to be infected.

I hope you are all right as I have not ruled out another test at 12 weeks.  I have seen that it is only 1 in 5 that do not develope antibodies within 6 to 8 weeks.

Thanks for the support though I really appreciate it.

A blood test will only tell you what you have - not where you have it. Since I assume you've also kissed this person - a + hsv1 blood test wouldn't rule out the possibility of an oral infection only. Most folks who contract hsv1 orally don't get obvious symptoms.

Just so you know, this was a one time thing.  No kissing.  She just gave me protected oral sex.  There is no chance of having it orally.

Protected oral sex. And he's being tested multiple times. Unbelievable.
