How long should the pain of an epidural last?

Hello-
I had my son in July of 2004. I had an epidural for the pain, everything was going smoothly. Later that night I had not progressed enough so I ended up with a c-section. A few weeks after I had the baby I started noticing lower back pain...almost at the direct spot I had the epidural placed. I let it go, thinking it would go away. I had my second child May 2007 and had another c-section ( so I had yet another needle in my back). Now my pain is so great that I cant stand the entire time it takes to do the dishes. I have to sit and wash them. I have my husband push my back in the tender spot and sometimes this makes my right leg go numb. I will have my husband literally take his fingers and push as hard as he can on my lower back, and believe it or not, it feels good. I can actually walk and stand longer. After he is done, it feels like the built up pressure in my back subsides.Dose anyone know what this could be? Please help!!!

if you don't get many responses here, you may want to post this question on the maternal and child health forum. lots of ladies there have had epidurals and there's a lot of traffic on that forum.
