Can anyone help me? I cant sleep through the night with out waking

by sweetlittlehugs, May 09, 2008 01:03PM
Hello there, Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem but i cant get through the night without waking 2 to 5 times. I wake up in the morning exhausted. Recently I started eating better and working out, this has made no change in my sleep. I go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time everyday. Ive tried OTC sleep meds but i still wake up (Albeit a bit groggy) Even vicodin couldnt keep me asleep for the entire night. Any advice would be apreciated! thanks

Sometimes meds or alcohol can interfere with sustaining sleep.

Frequent awakenings can be symptomatic of sleep disorders. While there are many sleep disorders, the 2 we hear the most about are sleep apnea and periodic limb movement disorder.

Some possible symptoms of sleep apnea can be morning headaches, waking with sensation of choking or shortness of breath or fast heartbeat, snoring, daytime sleepiness.

Some possible symptoms of a limb movement disorder are daytime sleepiness, restless or fitful sleep, waking while "changing position" of legs, covers in disarray, joint and muscle pain especially in legs.

Sleep is so important to health and well being. Talk to your doctor about a sleep study. Temporary poor sleep at times can be expected, but if ongoing the cause needs to be uncovered.

Hi sweetlittlehugs, how are you? I do understand how difficult it would be not to have proper sleep day to day. You seem to be probably having sleep apnea and anxiety, which might be probably not letting you have a good night sleep. Do you suffer from night terrors? It is better to have a light early dinner and go to bed early. You can listen to soft music or read your favorite book and a gentle soothing massage may be helpful. Do not take sleep medication without a doctor's prescription, as it can be harmful. Do consult a sleep specialist if this worsens. Share your thoughts. Take care.
