Could It Be Nothing?

For about five years now I have had trouble with what I call my "hips". I was walking one day when I got this stabbing pain down my leg that seemed to come from some where in my hip area down by the bone. My leg gave out on me, but I recovered within seconds. It was strange to say the least. Over time it happened more and more often, and not always with the same side. During my second pregnancy it was unbearable to the point that some mornings I could not even bear the weight of trying to lift my leg off the bed without causing myself terrible pain. I was only 3 or 4 months pregant. I was given a cane and told to use it when needed. It was pretty much glued to my side. By the time I was 51/2 or 6 months, I was in a wheel chair, couldn't use the bathroom by myself etc. After the baby was born, I started to feel better, I could walk on my own most of the time, but needed my cane on "bad days". I had x-rays done, but they said that everything was fine. Well, My little one is now over two years old, and though I can go weeks without pain, it will hit me all of the sudden, usually one side at a time, and I am pretty much off my feet for a few days. I am now pregnant again and it has started to get worse again. I don't know what it is, none of my doctors seem to know, but the pain it causes is terrible. The longer it goes on the worse it gets, it doesnt only send sharp pains anymore, now it causes a dull aching for hours, not to mention I am tiring of almost falling everytime I bear weight on any certian side. I really just don't know what to do, or who to go to. But I can't take much more this. I don't think it could be just "nothing". There has to be a cause for it. Maybe someone can point me in the direction to tell me what it is?

Has your doctor ordered and MRI yet?  You might need to find a new MD if the one you are currently seeing will not order one.

There are many things that could be going on. The MRI will tell if you have nerve problems.

The Lumbar spine can get damaged and press or trap your nerves. That usually involves weak legs, numbness, pins and needles, muscle spasm, pain etc.

Good Luck,

Julie

I had the same symptoms you're describing, pain going from my hip to my toes, excruciating!  First happened to me when walking on uneven ground.  I had major leg damage in an accident so I felt it was from my hip.  After suffering off and on for several years I was sent to PT and a back specialist who found a bone spur and spondylolisthesis.  When I finally had an MRI it found I have severe narrowing of spinal canal.  I waited 8 years after first diagnosis to get MRI and am now miserable and looking at fusion surgery in the very near future.  This may not be anything like what you have but my guess is there is a problem with a nerve somewhere in your back.  I would insist on an MRI to get to the bottom of this.  Don't wait until it get's to the point you have no options but a major surgery.
