3 Miscarriages and now normal pregnancy?

by mj_mommy_manda, May 09, 2008 06:25PM
I have had 3 miscarriages in the past.  The first 2 i had a d&c, second was tested and found a trisomy 14.  Third miscarriage i had at about 5 weeks, shortly after i found out i was pregnant.  I am now 15 weeks 1 day pregnant and have seen my babies heartbeat via ultrasound and heard my babies heartbeat via doppler.  (150 beats per minute)  I am naturally scared to death that something will go wrong with this pregnancy.  I met with a genetic counselor the day of my first ultrasound when i was about 13 weeks 6 days along.  She told me different possibilities for my pregnancy, but since my 2nd miscarriage I have switched doctors.  I am so confused because my last doctor told me it would be almost impossible for me to have a baby without invitro fertilization and my genetic counselor tells me this isnt true that it is possible for me to have a normal and healthy baby on my own.  My doctor told me that after hearing/seeing the babies heartbeat at 12 weeks that your chance of miscarriage drops to 1 to 2% but I am still deathly afraid that something is going to go wrong because of my past and reading scary stories of others who have lost a baby in the second trimester.  So basically my question is, what are my chances of carrying my pregnancy to term? are they less than someone who has never miscarried or who has no chromosomal defects? Thank you!

It sounds to me you are on your way to having a healthy baby!!!  Esp. if you have gotten this far.  I would quit the worrying and start focusing on whats to come.....having a baby!!!!  I think your chances of carrying to term is probably like 99% so I think it is safe to start thinking of names, planning a nursery, planning a baby shower, all of the fun stuff that is ahead.  So I think it is safe to start enjoying your pregnancy!!!!!  Good luck and welcome to the forum!!! :)
