Scared of Symptoms That I am Currently Experiencing

by 78lisamarie, May 09, 2008 09:48PM
I have had what seems to be weakness in both of my upper arms recently.  I also seem to have a tightening in my legs, especially my left one and a sort of spasm-like feeling in my right one - also, a "tiredness" feeling after walking or doing much of anything.  I've always been a very strong, active  person, so to experience these things is a little scary, especially since I have 3 teenage children and a husband, who has ALS.  I'd like to think it's getting older, I'm 44, but I'm not sure.  Can you advise? Should I be seeing someone about these symptoms, or should I wait it out and see if they change before seeing someone.  In December, I suffered a stroke, but had no lasting effects from it.

Thank you.

Hi there.

The fact that you experienced a stroke before, even if with no serious sequelae, should prompt you to seek medical consult for any new symptoms that you might be experiencing, especially the ones resulting to weakness or spasms.  These may be indeed due to aging but these symptoms should be treated as serious until proven otherwise.  Other causes include heightened stress levels, or micronutrient deficiency such as vitamin B or calcium.  I suggest you have this looked at by your doctor so that you can be examined properly and thoroughly.  Regards and God bless.
