Practicing Law of Attraction

by canteacher, May 10, 2008 12:00AM
Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has first of all read The Secret. If you have did you actually use the law of attraction to manifest something in your life? Also what were your results in doing this? I have just recently starting reading the book, which I bought during a recent shopping trip. I was thinking tomorrow about trying to manifest something small just for an experiment to see what would happen. Just curious what everyone's results were with this.

I read the book. I try to take it all with a grain of salt. As a Christian I have to be careful with some of this stuff. Some of it is pretty New Agey. But there's also some good points to it too. I take what I think would be beneficial for me from this book, such as focusing on being more positive in my thinking and speaking. I actually felt like God had been speaking to me about that for a long time, to pray more positively. I also like the idea of a gratitude journal and I try to be more grateful and appreciative of what I have.

I don't think there's anything "magical" about this book or these ideas, though. I don't think they are trying to say that you can just imagine a palace or a million dollars and "poof" it's there. You run the risk of becoming arrogant and greedy then if you think that way and that kind of takes away form the grateful and thankful attitude, doesn't it? So, you have to be careful. Like I said, there's nothing really magical about this. It's just common sense really.
It's kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy, you know? If you really believe in something, like a dream of yours, then you will do whatever you can to make that dream come true. But if you believe that you'll never make it, you'll never accomplish anything, then you never will. You see what I mean? A lot of this we do unconsciously but we can sabotage ourselves or help ourselves. Does this make sense? I guess I'm just a practical thinker, lol. Anyway, this may not have been what you wanted to hear but this is what I got out of the book! :)

Obviously,  this works.  I don't think it's a "Secret"  though - all cultures and all generations understand the power of prayer,  or the power of positive thinking.  Some pray to different gods/goddesses,  some pray to a universal spirit,  some ask questions on the wind.  "The answer,  my friend,  is blowing in the wind.  The answer is blowing in the wind . . ."

Yes,  it works.

In my experience,  asking for signs works MUCH better than asking for a specific outcome.  Like,  if you want to be able to pay your rent that month don't ask for money,  ask for direction in how to solve the problem.  You'll be knocked over by the quick response.

I believe it.  I've done it.  My son (12) does it and points out all the times it obviously works.

I agree that it's like prayer and thankfulness--you pray for guidance and thank God for the good things in your life.  Same thing.  I wear a bracelet that says, "Be Grateful" and it helps to remind me to do so and that seems to bring me more for which to be grateful.

I print quotes that support this--one says, "Thought creates reality.  Energy follows thought.  What are you thinking?" and "Whether you think you can or think you can't--you are right."

Also, Richard Carlson has written many books (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff is one) and he wrote one called "You Can Feel Good Again" and in it he says that you can't have a feeling without a thought.  His way of treating people with depression is to help them change their thought processes--he says that you can never feel happy or positive if you continue to go to a therapist who has you thinking and talking endlessly about every negative thing that happens and every negative thought you have.  That catching yourself when you are having negative thoughts and redirecting your thoughts will help you to feel and be happy.  Focus on the good.

So, yes...I'm a believer.  Thoughts are very powerful.

The Secret gives me the creeps. It comes across as some Scientology mantra.
Regardless, its principle has always worked for me. Once you know what you desire in life, you empower yourself to make the right decisions at the right time and to spot opportunities - which you wouldn`t if your mind were a blurry mess. It always works to reset your heartfelt priorities in life and then life tends to fall in place, seemingly as coincidence, but in reality it is just you being aware of what you are looking for.
