Fungus Cause

I have had round red patches before a few years ago on my inner thighs and were told by my regular doctor that it was most likely fungus. I used Clotrimazole Cream 1%.  It took a very long time (a year) to get rid of. It was hard to remember to use it every day several times and then it spread to the front of my leg on my shin area. All of a sudden I could practically watch it clear up. Now it is back. It started on the inside of my left upper arm and the same place as before on one side. In a matter of a couple of months it has spread to my lower tummy and a couple of spots on my upper thighs. I want to know what causes this and can it spread to my husband. I am going to get an appointment with a dermatologist this time but meanwhile could you answer those questions and tell me are there better treatments for this.

Hi,

How are you doing now? Have you seen your skin specialist? What did he / she advise?

Are the lesions still persistent?

Have you tried calamine lotion? Has it helped?

You should ask your doctor to rule out a ring worm or superadded bacterial infection too as the cause of your lesions.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.

I fully intend to see a dermatologist now that it has gotten worse instead of better. I never said it spread to my husband, I asked you if it could. I don't feel you made much effort to answer the questions I did ask. If it was because you think it would have stopped me from seeing a doctor you are much mistaken. I do have insurance thankfully and I only hadn't gone before because I saw my regular physician and my OBGYN for unrelated things and had asked them what it was and they were not overly concerned.

Hi,

Well like  i said in my previous post - all your queries could only be answered after a proper clinical examination.

This could be an infective lesion - if it has spread to your husband too.

Have you seen a specialist for your complaints as yet?

Keep us posted on how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Let us know what your doctor tells you.

Regards.

If what I have is a fungus, is it totally not contagious as I have been told by other doctors. I am concerned about my husband as it is on my tummy and thighs. Also what causes a fungus in the first place and will the symptoms continue to come back when I get rid of them again. I mean is it in my system for good or will it be completely gone with the right treatment.

Hi,

This could be a fungal infection or an allergic reaction to some unknown substance or dermatitis or eczema.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products use a medicated sunscreen whenever you go out.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine.

It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination.

Are you on any medications currently?

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing and about what your specialist advises.

Regards.
