Do sexual surrogates really help?

I posted this on sexual health forum but got no response. hence repeating:
I know a couple whom I counsel for their relationship issues. In one of the sessions the husband mentioned that the wife is very cold towards him and behaves as if she is extra introvert during love making. it is apparent that both are suffering the consequences of the impact. Now, I do this as service for an NGO in India and on further research found that in few countries sexual surrogates are used for such interventions (We are not very advanced or progressive in the subject).
Any body knows if it helps and what are down-sides of same.
It will help if any member is a professional in the field and can give a comprehensive response.

I am naturally good at sex so never needed one & have been lucky to have been with good lovers as well. That's how us Italians are though...Just naturally sexy!!! Guess I'm blessed that way.
