Confused and Alone

by TiredA24, May 10, 2008 11:17AM
I am a 24 years old female. For the last 7 years i have had a number of stomach problems. For about a month now i have been experiencing something different. Everytime i got to the bathroom there is blood. Im not sure if its in the stool or not. Sometimes it occurs all day even if im not in the bathroom. The blood is bright red sometimes with hugh clots. I went to see my doctor and he told me he thinks its hemmroids. However he didnt even do an exam he just based it on my age and weight. Anyway i am not feeling exhausted all the time and experiencing nausea. Is this something that could be serious or should i just agree with what the doctor is saying?

Please understand that I am not a Doctor,

But please make an appointment with a different Doctor and get a second opinion
As soon as possible. Your symptoms are not something to be ignored. I am surprised the Doctor didn't even look at it first and just guessed. Clots of blood and bleeding from the anus is not normal.

Please, get it checked by a different Doctor right away. If you don't know of any, at least go see your OBGYN!

Keep us posted please,

Sean

Further to Sean's posting above, you are on the young side to have any of the more sinister diseases that are demonstrated by rectal bleeding.  However, I suggest that unless your DIFFERENT doctor/specialist is able to make a positive diagnosis (based on examination/testing etc and not from supposition) that the cause is minor such as anal fissure or haemhorroids, then ask for the most comprehensive test which is a colonoscopy.  This will furnish maximum reassurance.

Good luck

To further both of the above excellent suggestions, you may consider taking a stool sample with you to the 2nd option doc, OB or wherever so that they can see for themselves.
Good luck!

Thanks  for the concern, i had my appt with my gastro this past week and theyve set me up for a colonoscopy. They dont seem to think its cancer and it not a hemmoroid. So they are thinking an ulcer, or maybe a tear. i will be sure to keep posted.!!

I had the same problem last year.  Lots of blood when i had a bowel movement and sometime blood when I didn't. I was in a lot of pain and thought I had Herroroids.  It turned out to be an anal fissure(tear).  My doctor tried to treat me with medicine that I inserted in my anus several times a day. After 2 weeks and no improvement I went back and opted for the surgery.  I should have done this the first time.   The first few days after the surgery were rough but no worse that the pain of the actual fissure. Then I immediately started to  get better. Good Luck
