celiac testing

by lagoya, May 10, 2008 11:44AM
hi i have a few blood tests for celiac which came back neg and a few weeks ago because i was having problems while eating gluten based foods for a number of months had a biopsy done for celiac and this also came back neg.
i was just wondering i didnt eat a lot of gluten products before the biopsy would this make a difference or would there already be damage done from years of eating gluten based products.
i have a big promblem with digestion when eating such products and have lost a considerable amount of weight because of this.
all other major illness have been ruled out.i have autoimmiune thyroid disease and could this be effecting asorbation.
new to forum thanks guys

I have heard that it can affect the test. I like the enterolabs.com. They test the stool for antibodies to gluten. You can still be allergic to gluten and not be celiac sprue.

Get the fecal antibody test for gluten done via enterolab and double-check the results of the standard tests. IMO, the fecal antibody test is a darned good - if not better - test than what is currently used to diagnose celiac issues. Many people don't give positive results on either blood or biopsies until much later in the process. It's a shame because those people go on having problems for years before they're finally 'diagnosed' and they're already experiencing the numerous other problems that can emerge with long-term gluten expose.
