Teen age son

by bobbi813, May 10, 2008 05:42PM
I have an 18 year old son (only child) that is a freshman in college at California State.  I am in Montana. We don't seem to be close anymore and he is very distant.  He never calls and doesn't want to come home at all anymore. He is an excellent student and very focused.  We argue all of the time with him showing no respect for me at all.  I want to talk it out and he closes up and refuses to communicate at all. He acts like he hates me and is very distant.  I have no idea how to fix our relationship.

Thank you for your Time

That is truly a sad situation. As a parent, all you can do now is keep the avenue of communication open and do not respond '*** for tat'. Often,a s time goes on, wouns like this heal and children come closer to their parents. All you can do is continue to express interest in your son and how he is doing, even if he does not recipriocate your interest. You don't want to look back later on and think that you did not do everything in your power to invite him to open up to you.
