Please Help

by jeli10, May 10, 2008 06:34PM
Hi I am a 27 year old mother of 3 and I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome from my obgyn and fybroymyalgia by another doc. and now another doc has added on migraines. I started off one summer having a fever, chills, vomiting, and a head ache that was so bad I was sure I had tumor or something after 2 weeks in the hospital I was told it was just a virus. Few months later I would feel very sluggish some days more than others and aching all over which was called CFS by my OB who put me on Zoloft few weeks later I suffered from same symptoms. Went to family doc who then diagnosed me with fybro and prescribed me Cymbalta instead of Zoloft. I was managing a lil better for a few more weeks but just to be safe I wanted a second opinion, the doc sided wit the last doc and added Lyrica to the Cymbalta. Once again I managed for a few more weeks improved my diet and excercise to also help with the meds. and up until last week Around the same time every day I started feelin really light headed, slight head ache, nausea, and numb/sluggish all over my body. After two whole weeks of it I finally went to see my doc again and was diagnosed with migrains and prescribed Imitrax on top of Cymbalta & Lyrica. Now two days later Im still not feeling better someone please help me. All my blood work and test come back perfectly normal. I want to live a normal life again.

I'm sorry to hear your having such a tough time.  Even though all your blood tests are fine, if you have never seen a rhumatologist you may want to consider it. They are kinda the doc you see when you run out of answres.
They diagnose things like lymes, auto-immune conditions and also things like Fibro(I dont know if they handle CFS though)
Whatever docs have done blood work rhumies do them that much more in depth because so many things can hide or not be picked up except to run in depth panals.

I wish I had more suggestions or knew what it could be causing your such a terrible time
I hope your able to find the answeres you need as soon as possible.

I agree with Toomanyadvil, get to a rheumy for a more thorough evaluation.  Many times patients get dx with fibro too quickly.  FMS can only be dx by ruling everything else out and that takes more in depth testing.  Hang in there!

Hi,

It's amazing how doctors tend to prescribe psych meds when people are suffering from physical illnesses. I was put on Valium because of Graves' disease (in addition to antithyroid medication) and the Valium is making me paranoid, numb, agoraphobic and lethargic, so a doctor is helping me to taper off the medication, and the taper is horrific, too. I think you ought to get a second opinion from a rheumatologist and get a test for rheumatoid factor in your blood. You also might want to see an alternative practitioner who might be able to help you with more natural methods. It seems to me that part of your problem could be all these psych meds. Read YOUR DRUG MAY BE YOUR PROBLEM by Dr. Peter Breggin. I found it very enlightening. I wish I could help with your diagnosis, but I'm not a medical doctor. You might have fibro. You could have CFS or you might have rheumatoid arthritis. There are lots of medical problems which fit your symptoms. You might even have some kind of infection or virus or even Lyme disease.

I agree with going to a rheumatologist and letting them them weigh in on a diagnosis and those meds.  You've got a history and present symptoms that would benefit from coordinated oversight. Too many docs prescribing for "maybes" that are not their specialty are a recipe for problems. This may or may not all go back your illness a few years ago. How is your sleep? If it is broken or excessive, you may want to be evaluateed by a sleep doctor.
