could this be infection of hair foliciles?

by teshbug, May 11, 2008 12:40AM
I have small bumps with pustulas around the hair on my leg (right lower leg,) itching rash but I pick the hair out with tweezers because the small bumps get little white heads on them , What is this and how can I treat this. Will laser take away the small white scars that pulling out the hairs left?

Hi,

This sounds like folliculitis due to involvement of the hair follicles. A fungal infection is also something to consider here. But folliculitis is a stronger differential due to involvement of the hair follicles.

Laser may help improve scarring. At this point however, if an infection is being considered , I think treatment of the infection is a priority. If the infection is not treated then the skin condition will continue to recur.

For how long have you experienced this?

Do the bumps appear to be whitish or reddish?
