Itching making me crazy !!

by Mommalego, May 11, 2008 03:15AM
I have been experiencing bouts of severe itching off and on for about a week. I al first thiught it was my laundry detergent. Changed that, no inprovement. Also changed my bath soap, no change again.
I even thought it could be some of my medication, but I have not changed any of that in over 2 months.
No blood pressure meds, I know those can cause problems for some folks.
So, I am at a loss. I see not visible bites of any kind. I have changed my sheets twice already.
No one else in the house seems to be having a problem.  I am starting to think I am CRAZY!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!

Hi,

Itchiness is termed as pruritus in medical terminology. It may be caused by several factors from superficial skin conditions like a dermatitis  to  systemic disease conditions like kidney and liver disease. In your case, factors like medications (which you have ruled out), certain food, insect bites, dust and heat have to be taken into consideration. Certain chemicals may also cause this.

One factor which may initiate pruritus is skin dryness. Is this present in your case?

Do you have severe skin dryness?

My son has severe itching. All over his body. He has been tested for allergies, nothing. He has not changed meds. we also tried to change soaps. He is autistic as well. blood work seems fine. bile acids may be high, depending on interpretation of results. He is miserable. He is 6 years old.
