Sensitive to allergens

by OVCIndia, May 11, 2008 11:29AM
Below is my mom's case history

At Diagnosis CA125 level was 4900
After 2d cycle of carbo/taxol 1700
After 3d cycle and before debulking surgery 900

(Extensive debulking surgery included complete hysterectomy, removal of Omnetum, left and right diaphragm striping, Removal of Inra-aortacaval and para-aortic lymph nodes, removal of rectal sheath due to which had to reconstruct abdomen using a mesh, removal of Appendix)

3 weeks post surgery and before 4th cycle 4.8
After 4th cycle 29
After 5th cycle 17

She is going in for her 6th cycle tomorrow.  Her initial 6 cycles are via IV since they had to remove her rectal sheath.  She will be on 3 cycles of maintainance IP chemo with single agent carboplatin after her 6th treatment.

Lately she has become very sensitive to allergens i.e, she developes itching sensations when she goes out for a walk or when he is washing utensils.  Is this one of the reactions of carboplatin?

They say it isn't but I developed red, hot palms of  my hands. It gets worse when I put them in hot water or shower. I have had much more noticible allergy this spring also. Probably from the lowered immune systen from chemo.

To: it could be
My mother got the same problem but now, after 4 moths from 6th chemo, it's over.
Side effects are really a wide range. Keep on hoping and being strong for her!
