How good is CA 125 at telling us how we are doing?

by mrothschild, May 11, 2008 05:14PM
We are doing a complete regimen of diet, excersize and supplementation in addition to Iscador, apricot pits and are wondering ihow reliable the CA 125 is in determining how well these things are working?

Any stories or experience with this will be most appreciated!

It varies with each individual. If the ca125 was a good indicator of disease during treatment, it usually remains a good indicator. Some people have a normal ca125 with evidence of disease on scans. Others have no evidence of disease and a high ca125  (Me for ex.)

The CA125 is used to determine how well your chemo is working and if you are not on chemo I would not expect to see that number go down much.  How have your tests been so far?  What did it start out at?  Did you have surgery?  I understand the mistletoe has shown to be somewhat helpful in animals prior to surgery to help prevent the spread of cancer during surgery.  What kind of cancer do you have?  What kind of chemo are you doing?  Do you get the iscador on your own or do you have a dr order it from Europe or are you in a country where you can legally get it? Do you do the injections yourself or does a Dr do it?
I wish you would put a profile, it would make it easier to answer your questions if we knew a little more about your case.  Good luck to you.

The others are right. The CA is best for women who were dx with a high CA reading and it responded and went down with treatment. Then when it starts to rise they will keep track of what is going on. My onc goes by 3 consecutive rises before further action is taken.
