Tooth with a root canal!

I recently had to find a new dentist because my previous one had retired. Tooth #20 has had a root canal for the past 2 or 3 years and has been just fine. The new dentist thinks it should be crowned so that it won't eventually crack. Is this really worth the expense or should I leave well enough alone?

I used to practise in queens. It's not too bad to live in NYC. I am sure you can find a competent dentist in NYC. If you are not sure which one you can trust, you can send me private e-mail. I 'll let you know where my classmate is practising.
