Is this GERD?

by roger222, May 12, 2008 07:31AM
Hello.

I've been to the doctor and he has told me i "might" have Acid Reflux, but the tablets they are giving me arn't working and havn't made it better, i'm currently trying Gaviscon as this removes excess acid but it really isn't working either, so i really don't know if this is Acid Reflux or not.

I've been waking up with a tight chest, trouble breathing (or at least i can get air into my lungs, i just can't get the full flow)

I've been having a bubble sensation in the back of my throat, like the groan your belly makes when your hungry but not so loud, it feels as if trapped wind is in my throat, is this to do with GERD or something else because it's really worrying me?

I cannot live life with my current condition and have to stay inside most of the time.

HELP?

Also, the only way to relief this is to burp, but it still comes back VERY fast and my tight chest comes back, i wish i knew a way how to sort this!

To: WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY!!!
When you use the Gaviscon (which is a great choice as it is also a barrier) you are making sure you split it out from the reflux meds, right?  Bcz it can absorb the meds dearly and you don't get the full affect.

What med are you on and what dosing?

It can give the sensation you describe and then get releived when you burp.  My dd gets that.  But I'm not  Dr. just a mom with too much exp with my kids as infants and now adolescents, too.

If this continues you may want to ask for upper GI to rule out anomoly or other reason.  That would be something I would ask for .. but see first bcz depending on which med you are on there may be room for more meds first.

See  a GI .. not a reg. doc in my opinion,

Cheryl

Thankyou for your advice.

I can't actually remember the meds i was taking and they've ran out now, i'm going to the doctors tomorrow to get some more, so i'm just taking gaviscon to help with the problems for now.

This has been happening for 5 weeks now, but for two weeks i didn't know what the problem was and i was on no meds whatsoever until it got so bad i ended up down the emergency doctors at 2am in the morning which i found out it "could" be acid reflux.

Thanks for the help anyway, i really just wanted to know if this was GERD or not, thankyou.

My non medical answer would be "yes" sounds like bad GERD to me but I'm not a medical doctor.

Good Luck and keep us posted!
