Anyone who's taking progesterone supplement

by KM604, May 12, 2008 07:57AM
*I tried posting this in the pregnancy 21-34 community but didn't get much feedback, wasn't sure if this is a better place to post this question*

I would appreciate any feedback.  Very quickly, since I went off the pill in August 2007, I suffered a m/c in December.  On 4/14 AF came on time (for the first time might I add) so I figured maybe my cycle will be regular.  Well it was from 4/14-4/18 and pretty much consisted of heavy spotting and barely any cramping (unusual for me).  Then on 4/26-5/1 - same thing!! So then I went to the OBGYN, after an u/s he believed that I wasn't ovulating.  So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days.  I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting.  Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps.  I have 3 days left of the Prometrium (after today) and he had said I wouldn't start until 3-7 days after.  The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first).  Sooooo, my question is, has anyone started bleeding before finishing Prometrium??? I'm just confused because this would make bleeding for one week on, one week off, one week on, one week off and now a week later again!!  Just a little confused and any information would be helpful.

I wish I could help.  I am taking progesterone  after my ivf and so far no spotting or bleeding although normally I have spotting for several days before AF.  AF should be coming today but I believe that while I am taking progesterone it's not going to show since your body believes that your corpus luteum is still up and running.

I am so sorry about your loss.  I hope your cycle regulates itself soon.

Thanks, yeah I had heard that it makes your body believe it is pregnant.  That's why I wasn't sure why I started the bleeding before ending the dosage.  Thank you for your help.

I did the prometrium to bring a period on and started bleeding before I was done. I finished up the pills and had a normal cycle. Call the gyno and let him now it is poradic. Should be ok - but just in case, call and just let them know.

I started progesterone (but not prometrium) a few cycles ago 'cause my luteal phase was too short.  The progesterone lengthened my luteal phase from 9 days to 13-14 when AF starts, and then I stop the progesterone.  I'm not sure if prometrium and the progesterone I'm taking work differently ??  I'm not sure why you would be bleeding so much, but again I'm not familiar with the progesterone you're taking.  I would ask your doctor what he/she thinks.  Good luck to you !  :)
