Pain when urinating

by totmanr, May 12, 2008 08:14AM
I had pelvic laparoscopy done 7 weeks ago. The doctor said he cut massive amounts of adhesions that were attached to my stomach all the way down to the pelvic bone. He also removed an ovary on the right side because he said it was bound in scar tissue. I have had 2 c-sections, previous lap for adhesions, a hysterectomy, and gall bladder surgery. When he did the lap he also did a cystoscopy with hydrodistention. When I came to and had to go to the restroom before I could leave it was extemely painful. Still I am having pain. When I go to urinate there is pain and sometimes it is worse than others. I am on a wealth of meds. I take Utira-C,baclofen,amitriptyline, and hydroxyzine. I will say that I had the same pain after the c-sections and hysterectomy, but the pain subsided after the first couple of weeks. The pain I have also goes across from the bladder to each side where the removed ovary was and where the other ovary is. I haven't returned to work yet because the doctor hasn't released me yet. Can you please tell me if this is normal to still be in pain?

Some of your medications e.g., amitryptiline may cause urinary retention, which could cause urinary frequency. If the hydrodistention was done for urinary frequency, then it sounds like this problem is no better after your extensive surgery.

It sounds like some part of your pain may be related to pelvic and abdominal muscle trigger points, and you need to have these evaluated by a trained pelvic floor physical therapist. Locate one, and get evaluated. If there are active trigger ponts, this can be cures with myofascial release physical therapy. THis will also help reduce your persistant need to urinate.
