waking up to strong heartbeat

by BigRed2008, May 12, 2008 11:26AM
I'm a 35yo male, non-smoker, not over weight, social drinker. I have been waking up at night to a strong heartbeat, not a fast rate, just super strong heartbeat that literally wakes me up. I went to my general doctor and they gave me an ekg, also a heart monitor that I wore for 24hrs, checked my cholesterol etc...and everything came back normal.  I have noticed it more after a night that I may have had a few alcoholic drinks. So I've totally stopped with the alcohol, since the beginning of May and have still woken up a few nights with the strong heartbeat.  My wife wants me to see a cardiologist.  Is it worth going to a cardiologist at this point when the general doctor didn't find anything to be alarmed about? Thanks.
