Rash on Foot

My 5 year old has a rash on his foot.  It started yesterday with a tiny blister & redness.  He ran a fever of 101.7 last night, but has been stopped up (coughing, sneezing, etc.) so I don't know if it is linked to the rash.  Today the area on his foot is swollen and almost purple with the blister oozing pus.  Any help - I don't know whether we should take him to the doctor or not?!?!?

I would take him.  Could just be athlete's foot, but since he had fever at the same time, you want to know if it is b/c of the rash, or just a coincidence.

I would call at least.  Could potentially be hand foot and mouth too since he has the fever. Or just athletes foot, or a virus to go along with his other symptoms. My 5 year old daughter has very sensitive skin and gets rashes quite a bit and the docs always say they are the worst thing to diagnose because they really don't know what causes them.  I'd call though and then let them make the decision whether to bring him in or not.  Good luck

Thank you for your comments.  I did call the doctor and had my husband take him.  They seem to think that it is some sort of bite (spider, insect??).  The doctor gave him an antibiotic & I have to take him back today to see if it is any better.  Still worried - his foot is almost purple today!!  I will keep everyone posted, in case someone ever has the same problem.
