Brain MRI results

by Jan351, May 12, 2008 02:35PM
I had a brain MRI several months ago to diagnose balance impairment and muscle weakness.   My doctor doesn't know how to interpret the results except to say they reflect past headaches.   I was diagnosed with lyme a few years ago and there has been question about MS.  Do these results indicative of lyme or MS?

Several punctate foci on T2 hyperintensity are again identified scattered within the subcortical and deep cerebral white matter.   This includes a mild hazy T2 hyperintensity in the peritrigonal white matter.  No parenchymal masses or mass effect are noted.  Structures of the posterior fossa and midline appear normal.  No significant supra-or parasellar abnormalities are identified.  No focus of signal abnormality is seen on the DWI-EPI exam.  No focus of abnormal contrast enhancement is identified.    Thanks for you input.  I so appreciate it!

Hi there.

The MRI findings of punctate white matter lesions in your brain can be both due to the previous lyme disease or of demyelinating, neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS).  The clinical distinction of the two may also be vague since both would tend to present in the same way.  I suggest that you visit your neurologist regularly so that any new changes or new symptoms can be detected and addressed.

Regards and God bless.
