Severe Myopia - rigid gas permeaable lenses

by corbrown, May 12, 2008 04:23PM
My son ( 9 yrs old) has severe myopia (-12 approx in both eyes).  I heard that the use of rigid gas permeable lenses may possibly slow the progression of myopia - is there research data regarding this issue?  Are there other options for treatment or management?

thanks,
corina.

I have done a lot of research on this subject and my personal conclusion has been that there is really no proven way to slow down myopia.  Lots of research going on - but read the research literature (pubmed.com is a great starting place) and you can draw your own conclusions.  Make sure a good exam is performed by board-certified ophthalmologist - that is always a good start and only use the minimal prescription needed and no more.
