red bump underleft arm

by TDAM, May 12, 2008 08:55PM
My son has a red bump around the size of a large grape under his left arm. It appeared overnight and is very painful to touch. It is raised. He has been to the pediatrician 4 times in the last month due to it not going away. H has been on 2 different antibiotics and has had blood testing done. The only thing we know is that soometime in the past he had mono. We are supposed to see a pediatric surgeon in 2 weeks. We are afraid of having to wait that long. Any idea what this could be?

Hi,

There could be several causes of such a lesion and a skin nodule, lipoma, traumatic inflammation, lymph node swelling, etc need to be ruled out.

You should reconsult with his pediatrician about the lesion and get  a repeat clinical examination.

Let us know about what his doctor advises and post us if you need any further information.

Regards.
