Possible STD??

by reasonablyangry1, May 13, 2008 07:31AM
I was diagonosed with prostatis and given co-trimoxazole to help clear it up. However I had unprotected sex with a friend 2 night later...will the trimoxazole clear up any possible STD's like chlamydia or gonerrhea??

Not being qualified on how a particular medication would react/protect in a situation like this I am reluctant to pass any comment on that .....
I will say though that unprotected sex can bring with it the risk of contracting several STD's not exclusively Chlamydia or Gonnerhea so in view of that and also the fact that you are being treated for Prostatitis it would be wise to get tested for possible STI's also if you are still attending your Doctor/Urologist for Prostatitis inform them of your recent sexual activity, they need to be kept up to speed with your general health concerns if they are treating you for a particular condition......

I hope this helps in some way

Its a good possibility, but not something I would rely totally on.  When you are finished with these meds, if you are still symptomatic, you need to test.

And Daisy makes an excellent point.  Since you are being treated for prostatitis, you should use condoms.  You don't know if you have a bacteria that could be passed to your friend (unlikely, but possible).  Its not just about what you could get, but what you could transmit, too.
