endometrial mass measuring 3cm

by doxiemom, May 13, 2008 09:09AM
Hello I am trying to figure out what the nurse actually told me yesterday. I have had very heavy and prolonged periods for over a year now. When I say prolonged I mean I don't bleed for maybe one week out of the month. I bleed after intercourse and have shooting pains always in the same spot which felt like it was my right ovary. I went to the gny a month ago and she sent me to have blood work and ultrasound done. Finally after not hearing anything for 3 1/2 weeks I called yesterday and the nurse just rambled on saying the blood work was fine but I can't really read what the doctor has written here. I says I have a 3 cm endometrial mass and she wants me to have surgery right away to remove it and at the sametime do a d/c. She didn't tell me what it was or tell me the doctor wanted to see me to talk about it first. I have tried looking it up to see what a endometrial mass exactly is and don't really find anything. When the nurse called back after she talked to the doctor to confirm what she read she said that the doc read the film again and it is diffenatly a mass not a cyst. Okay so what does this mean. I am 31 and have two young children. I have gained a lot of weight since all of this started. I don't know that I trust going back to this doctor since it took me to call almost a month later to get the results and the nurse said well if you haven't heard anything by now I am sure it is fine and then she finds my charts and then tells me this. What if I wouldn't have called would they have not given me the results. The problem is we just moved here away from all family and I don't know the doctors so this is a new one. Please tell me what you think.

Hi doxie

if you dont feel the doctor/nurse was any good totally go and get a second opinion one who will take the time to sit down and listen to you explain what is going on and put your mind at ease. god doctors can make such a difference. one male doctor told me i had stage 4 endo i nearly had a fit for 6weeks worrying and then the female doctor sat down went through everything with me and told me i was only stage 4 because the size of the cyst. i had a 8cmx6cm on my left ovary. i had my surgery back in february and got 6 weeks off work :) the surgery will be done key hole i had to be opened up because the size of my cyst was so big but within 2/3 weeks i was feeling much better. im sure if it was anything to worry about they would have rushed you right in. your doctor/nurse seems useless go elsewhere :) hope this helps. and try not to worry yourself the worst thing i did was read ppl's horror stories not many ppl write or comment on good news, everyone is different but the best advice i can give you is not to put it off. make an appt as soon as possible :) good luck
