white area of eye grey

by timetobecomeone, May 13, 2008 10:12AM
My granddaughter is 9 months old.  The whites of her eyes are a steally grey color.  Her pediatrician seem to think this is normal and to wait until she is a year old and see if it goes away.  She is in the 15% of her peer group as far as weight.  Only 16lbs.  Her appitite has demished in the last 2 months to only about 2-3 oz per bottle.  She is not interested in much baby food at a setting either.  I am very concerned.

The gray appearance is usually due to the white of the eye (sclera) being thinner than normal allowing the blue choroid under the sclera to show through. Consider taking the child to an pediatric ophthalmologist to confirm this. Find one at www.aao.org
